PUR HEXAGONE

CONTEXTE

Pur Hexagone is a plantation program of trees and hedges in France,  in partnership with little owners and farmers wishing to value their grounds and make a commitment in agro-forester practices.

The trees plantations projects are lead by the farmers themselves. Their initiative participate to rehabilitate the environment, and mainly the maintain and the enrichment of grounds and the storage of water in grounds.

If agroforestry is now recognized as a 100% agricultural practice, this was not the case about 10 years ago. Regulations have led to its demise in France, trees and crops are regulated separately, which makes it difficult to take into account the situation in which the two of them are associated on the same agricultural plot. The fiscal tenure status was not clearly defined either. This unclear legal situation has been a real break to the development of agroforestry in France.

It was not until May 2010 that regulatory measures were taken to solve these problems.Since then, agroforestry practices have been developing a lot in France.  It shows the interest of farmers, be they conventional or organic. They are interested in the economical aspect, but also about biodiversity stakes and soil fertility.

GOALS

The integration of trees in production systems has several aims: protecting plots against the excesses of phytosanitary treatments in the area, developing functional biodiversity and wildlife in farming, increasing the profitability of agricultural land, protecting animals, crops and equipment, controlling water, conserving soils, controlling microclimates, enhancing landscapes, diversifying income, etc.

All these benefits achieve maximum productivity while remaining mindful of the environment.
